Moen is known as the number one faucet brand in North America and now they have another prestigious award to add to their company success. They are the recipient of the 2011 WaterSense Excellence award by the U.S, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They were picked over a competitive competition due to their continuous efforts in their progressing WaterSense philosophy.
Moen has put a lot of time and money into promoting WaterSense programs using vessels like promotional events and advertisements geared toward media, consumers, associates and trade professionals. WaterSense campaigns were also launched to support awareness, including “We’re for Water” and “Fix a Leak Week” campaigns.
Taking a quote from the Moen Press Release “Since 2006, WaterSense and our many partners have helped Americans save 125 billion gallons of water and more than $2 billion in water and energy bills,” said Nancy Stoner, EPA’s Acting Assistant Administrator for Water. 125 billion gallons of water and over $2 billion in water and energy bills! Wow, that’s a lot of savings!
The Involvement Moen has with EPA’s WaterSense Program goes way past promotions and event support. Every Moen lavatory faucet for single and multi-family use is certified to meet the WaterSense criteria. These important water saving advances now extend into Moen showerheads, which meet the new 2010 WaterSense criteria for showerheads. And there is no sign of stopping; Moen continues to introduce WaterSense faucets and showerheads in every category, including rainshower, single-handle, showerheads and hand showers.
Recently Moen added Eco-Performance kitchen faucets to their product offering. These water saving kitchen faucets allow you to effortlessly switch between three water flow settings. These new Eco-Performance options allow the consumer to set the faucet on a low-water flow setting, which is perfect for washing dishes and prepping food. Switching to this setting reduces the flow to only 1.75 gallons per minute, which equals about a 32 percent water savings over the traditional 2.2 gpm water rate.
Again, taking a quote from the Moen Press Release “At Moen, we are constantly developing new products that provide a significant water savings without sacrificing performance, while finding ways to reduce our own environmental footprint.”
Moen has been a big supporter of the environment for the last twenty five years; they have championed programs for the advancement of sustainable practices both on a consumer and company level. As a company Moen had reduced their environmental footprint by reusing 70 percent of water used in product testing and recycles almost 82 percent of the waste from the manufacturing process. They also use soy based inks for copies and installed water filtration systems to reduce plastic bottle consumption.
All of these advances are a step in the right direction and we at Faucet Depot are proud to be a retail partner for Moen Products. We support and will continue to support Moen’s environmental practices and we hope that more companies will follow in the positive footsteps that Moen has pioneered.
